Service to Parishioners in Need BeFrienders BeFriender ministers are persons who have volunteered and been trained to bring support and friendship to members of the parish who need someone to talk with or help through a tough time. Time commitment varies. Training is provided. Funeral Luncheons This important ministry is comprised of volunteers who order food and prepare a luncheon following funerals at St. Francis of Assisi Church. A stipend from the family is provided to the Catholic Council of Women (CCW). This is an excellent way to provide support and fellowship to our parishioner families in their time of grief or loss. Training is provided and time commitment varies. Grief/TLC Ministry Those involved in Grief/TLC Ministry support parishioners who are experiencing loss. Grief ministers (TLC members) provide this support by visiting the grieving person, attending the funeral, and offering support as needed. Referrals to the BeFrienders are made, if necessary. Some background in grief ministry preferred. Occasional meetings are held and time commitment varies. Health & Wellness The Health & Wellness Committee works in the healing ministry of Christ and to each other. The committee meets monthly and is open to new ways of living out its mission by offering information and projects that serve parishioners. Ministry of Praise Parishioners of St. Francis of Assisi Church who are unable to be active have a very important mission, offering their prayers to the benefit of members of the parish and the Church as a whole. The pastor commissions those who join the Ministry of Praise and sends bimonthly letters requesting prayers for the parish and the world. Pastoral Care Those unable to attend Mass or parish events are a part of our community. Visiting nursing homes and those in the hospitals is an opportunity to share the love of Christ. Mass or prayer service is offered at the neighboring nursing home twice a month, and attendance is welcome. Eucharistic Ministers are also commissioned to take communion to elderly and/or frail parishioners who are unable to attend Mass. Parishioners are visited by the pastor, deacon or lay Eucharistic Ministers on the first Friday of the month and by Ministers to the Homebound on Sundays. Training is provided. Respite Care Respite care gives temporary relief to caregivers while offering companionship to the care recipient by providing substitute care. A partnership with Elder Network enables volunteers to receive training (four 2-hour sessions) and to provide respite (1 to 4 hours at a time) to caregivers in their home. A one-year commitment is appreciated. St. Jude Group This group meets once per month and offers daily prayer for the needs of anyone who asks for this support. Prayer requests are confidential. Sister Parish Our Sister Parish, San Luis, is located in Nueva Chimbote, Peru. We learn about the people of San Luis Parish, their lives, their material and spiritual needs, and help them know of us and our support. Offers of help and support are welcome.
